{"id":143,"date":"2012-09-21T13:58:26","date_gmt":"2012-09-21T06:58:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/?page_id=143"},"modified":"2014-09-09T11:52:57","modified_gmt":"2014-09-09T04:52:57","slug":"middle-years-science","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/?page_id=143","title":{"rendered":"MYP Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In my classroom you would expect to see a range of pedagogical styles in action with enquiry based learning at its heart. \u00a0Students are often required to build their understanding from a range of experiences. \u00a0My role as a MYP science moderator also keeps me aligned with how assessment tasks need to be designed to allow students the opportunities to shine against the relevant criterion.<\/p>\n<p>As a leading MYP teacher at my school I also recognise the importance\u00a0to students and the shared\u00a0responsibilities\u00a0of teachers with the approaches to learning (AtL) skills. \u00a0The Human Ingenuity challenges were introduced to excite students about the opportunities of science and provide all students with an opportunity to succeed. \u00a0Teams of student complete a long-term project (For example the <a href=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/GALYMPICS.docx\" target=\"_blank\">Galympics<\/a>). \u00a0All of the competing teams have a full day of timetable to present their long-term projects and also a number of spontaneous challenges.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_252\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-252\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-252\" title=\"Human Ingenuity Challenge\" src=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hic-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hic-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hic.jpg 548w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-252\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Human Ingenuity Challenge in action<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Here are some examples of units I have created and some of the related assessment tasks:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/MYP-unit-planner-car-safety.pdf\">MYP unit planner &#8211; car safety<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This unit has been designed to help prepare students make informed decisions relating to car health and safety in the future. \u00a0The key concepts behind the graphical presentation of motion, Newton&#8217;s 3 laws and the equations of motion will be introduced.
