{"id":145,"date":"2012-09-21T13:58:42","date_gmt":"2012-09-21T06:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/?page_id=145"},"modified":"2019-01-02T20:25:29","modified_gmt":"2019-01-02T13:25:29","slug":"high-school-physics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/?page_id=145","title":{"rendered":"IB Diploma Physics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have recently turned my high school physics class on its head. \u00a0I have done this by what is known as flipping the class or reverse learning. \u00a0This is where I record short vodcasts relating to content from the sylabus which my students watched in advance of a class at a time best suited to them (providing <strong>autonomy<\/strong>). \u00a0You can enjoy these via my youtube channel &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/neilcommons1?feature=mhee\">neilcommons1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ndJsBXZ4ccw\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This then allowed me to introduce more opportunity for students to utilise this taught knowledge and so consolidate their learning. \u00a0 This means more opportunity not only for practical science but also the integration of a range of on-line simulations (often from the excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/phet.colorado.edu\/en\/simulations\/category\/physics\">phet website<\/a>). \u00a0I also promote my students independently achieving <strong>mastery<\/strong>. \u00a0For this I often use the excellent <a href=\"https:\/\/quest.cns.utexas.edu\/\">Mind on Physics<\/a> website but am also presently leading a team looking at the future use of the <a href=\"https:\/\/quest.cns.utexas.edu\/\">Quest system from the University of Texas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/HSPhysics-class.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-167 alignleft\" title=\"HSPhysics class\" src=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/HSPhysics-class.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"368\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/HSPhysics-class.jpg 767w, http:\/\/neilcommons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/HSPhysics-class-300x218.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a picture of some of my latest Physics class trying to produce a balloon kebab (Technically not a Physics driven learning activity but it just happened)<\/p>\n<p>I have felt that the introduction of the reverse learning model to my High School Physics classroom has been incredibly beneficial. \u00a0It has certainly helped my students identify the <strong>purpose<\/strong> of their actions &#8211; either an academic requirement and a genuine enjoyment of the subject. \u00a0This was a journey of gradual introduction which I have documented on my blog, presented at several conference and have summarised for my final\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.coetail.asia\/\" target=\"_blank\">COETAIL<\/a>\u00a0presentation in this vodcast &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Tx2HwSZzz4E&amp;feature=plcp\">Trials and tribulations of a flipped classroom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Tx2HwSZzz4E\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This section really should have been titled titled &#8220;High School Physics&#8221;
